The goal of Texas Hold’em poker is to make the best possible five-card poker hand using your hole cards alongside the community cards. A standard 52-card pack is used to play Texas Hold’em poker.

• The Deal

Each player is dealt with two private cards. The dealer spreads five cards, which the players use to make their best possible five-hand card.

• The Blind

The button or dealer button indicates the dealer of the game. Betting begins on the left of the dealer and goes around each player.

The first player bets the small blind and the player on their left bets the big blind, which is typically twice the size of the small blind or could vary depending on the stakes and betting structure used.

• The Pre-Flop

After seeing their hole cards, each player has the option to fold, check along, or raise. It begins with the player left to the dealer and ends with the dealer.

The player who bet the big blind needs to add another dollar to the big blind total. For example, if the big blind was $2, it would cost $2 to call, or at least $4 to raise. All players must call a raise or check along to see the flop.

• The Flop

In the flop, three cards, which are the community cards, are dealt face-up on the board. Like the Pre-Flop, the players have the option to fold, check along, or raise.

• The Turn

In the turn, the fourth community card is dealt face up. Players have the option to fold, check or raise.

• The River

The fifth and final community card is dealt face up. Players can make their final bets and can fold, check or raise.

• The Showdown

In this round, everybody reveals their cards. The player with the best five-card poker hand wins the pot. If there are identical hands, the pot will be shared equally between the players with the best hands.

• Royal Flush

This is also known as Five of a Kind. It is the highest possible hand. An example of a Royal Flush consists of four 10s and a wild card or two queens and three wild cards.

• Straight Flush

A Straight Flush is a sequence of five cards in the same suit. An example includes A, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of spades.

• Four of a Kind

It is the next highest possible hand made up of a sequence of four cards. Examples include four aces or four 3s or four Qs or four 5s.

• Full House

Full House consists of three cards of the same rank and two cards of another rank. An example is three 5s and two Js.

• Flush

Flush consists of five cards of the same suit, but not all the same sequence. An example is A, J, 7, 5, 2.

• Straight

Straight consists of a sequence of five cards but not all the same suit. An example includes 7♣ 6♠ 5♠ 4♥ 3♥.

• Three of a Kind

It consists of three cards of the same rank and two cards of two other different ranks. An example includes 7♦7♠7♥3♦2♣.

• Two-Pair

This hand consists of two cards of the same rank and two other cards of the same rank and a fifth card of a different rank. An example includes Q♠ Q♥ T♣ 8♥ 4♠.

• One-Pair

This hand consists of two cards of the same rank and three other cards of different ranks. An example is 10♥10♣ K♣J♦3♥.

• No Pair

This consists of five cards that do not pair up or five cards that do not have the same suit.
